Nostalgia Funny Car racer Leah Pruett-LeDuc, will make her debut into the Nitro Funny Car class at the 2009 Pomona World Finals, November 12-15, driving the John Lindsay and Phil Miller owned Chevrolet Monte Carlo Funny Car sponsored by DragStar and TIGERFLOW Systems, Inc.

DragStar and TIGERFLOW Systems, Inc. will serve as co primary sponsors, with associate sponsors Iwata Medea, who are distributors of the World’s finest Airbrush Materials, and Coast Airbrush, located in Anaheim, Ca. Additional supporters of the team are Lucas Oil, Justice Brothers, Clevite, DJ Safety, and Simpson.

Pruett- LeDuc, 21, obtained her NHRA Nitro Funny Car license in late 2008 with Don Schumacher Racing, and has been competing in the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car class for the last two seasons. Pruett- LeDuc currently holds the record for fastest Nostalgia Funny Car at 250.37 mph in her Heartbreaker Mustang, and competed for three years in the NHRA’s Heritage Series’ Nostalgia Eliminator 1 category. From 1996 to 2006 she competed in both the NHRA and IHRA Jr. Dragster category, taking home eight championships, nine NHRA Wallys, and one IHRA Ironman.

“We are excited to have Leah Pruett-LeDuc drive for the Impulse Racing Team at the Pomona World Finals.” said Lindsay. “She brings with her a youthful approach, and has demonstrated the passion and talent it takes to drive a funny car. We will debut a new funny car at Pomona, as well as a new driver, and have been working nonstop for the past months to be ready in time.”

Pruett- LeDuc was born in Redlands, Ca., and lives with her husband, Todd, a professional off road racer for Rockstar Energy Drink and Makita Power Tools in the TORC and Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. They live in Cherry Valley, Ca. where she is the marketing manager for Todd’s race team, and attends college full time at California State University of San Bernardino. Pruett-LeDuc will graduate in June, 2010 with a Communications major, and Sports and Entertainment Marketing minor.

“I’m really excited,” said Pruett-LeDuc. “Racing a Nitro Funny Car has been my dream since I was little, you can ask anyone. Additionally, being able to debut at my home track is very exciting. I am proud of my racing past, and the path in which I have come. The support of my family throughout the years has been a blessing, and I thank them for that.

“We will be entering into Pomona with a new car, but definitely not a new team. Both Phil and John have been racing Nitro for many years, and have a great deal of experience with funny cars.

“And I’m very excited to have DragStar and TIGERFLOW Systems Inc. support this team at the World Finals. They are terrific products, and I’m looking forward to helping promote them.”

TIGERFLOW Systems, Inc. has been manufacturing Engineered Packaged Pumping Systems since 1985. During that time TIGERFLOW has manufactured systems for many different markets, including Commercial, Plumbing, HVAC, Fire Protection, Municipal, Heat Transfer, Hot Water Heating and a variety of other applications.

DragStar is a clothing brand geared to the female fan and racer that is stylish at or away from the track.

Sacramento, CA (June 29, 2009) - Nostalgia Funny Car driver Leah Pruett-LeDuc became the first person in history to reach 250 mph in a Nostalgia Funny Car. The record breaking run took place at Sacramento Raceway’s 33rd Annual Nitro Nite of Fire on Saturday, where she posted a 6.07 et at 250.37 mph in round one eliminations.

The interesting and unpredictable partnership between Leah Pruett-Leduc and Lee Jennings Sr. was the combination for this success. Leah, a familiar face and proven driver among the funny car ranks was in need of an engine for her family’s “Heart-Breaker” 1969 Mach 1 Mustang nostalgia funny car.

Lee Jennings Sr., a long time drag racer and funny car team owner is currently repairing his funny car chassis and body after a crash, leaving him with an entire engine setup, and no funny car to put it in at the moment. With both Lee and Leah’s passion to get back to racing, they teamed up putting Lee’s engine in the Heart-Breaker car and were on their way to Sacramento Raceway.

Local media also came to Sacramento Raceway Park to cover the excitement and get a taste of nitro. KCRA TV Channel 3, an NBC affiliate, featured Leah Pruett- LeDuc LIVE on their 6 AM, 7 AM, and 8 AM shows, along with Mark Sander’s impressively long burnout in his nostalgia funny car for the 250,000 viewers to see.

The nitro burning action began for the eight car field on Friday night with round one of qualifying. Under the sunset sky and 90 degree temperatures, Leah posted a 5.93 et (elapse time) at 249.42 mph, qualifying her in the second position behind Garret Bateman’s 5.85 et at 240 mph.

The second, and final round of qualifying took place at 1 PM Saturday afternoon during the heat of day with air temperatures hovering around 107 degrees, with undesired track temperature at 140 degrees. The Heart-Breaker funny car could not improve it’s time, and remained the number two qualifier.

First round of eliminations took place at a somewhat cooler time of the day, 5 PM, where Leah Pruett- LeDuc and her HeartBreaker Mustang matched up against number seven qualifier Josh Crawford in his ‘69 Mustang. Josh left the starting line before the green light came on, resulting in a foul and automatic round win for Leah. There was success for Leah and the Jennings team on both sides of the track as the Heart-Breaker car crossed the finish line at over 250.37 mph, becoming the first Nostalgia Funny Car to do so in history.

“I couldn’t be happier with the partnership between the Jennings team and myself. It was obviously a perfect combination of my car and Lee Jennings’ engine setup and team coming together to make the record breaking run,” said Leah Pruett-LeDuc.

Excitement of the broken speed record flooded throughout the pit as the teams prepared for the second round of eliminations. Leah Pruett-LeDuc faced the always competitive racer Dennis LaCharite in his ‘69 GTO flopper in front of the packed grand stands at 8:30 PM. The reaction times of both racers were almost identical, but it was Leah who crossed the finish stripe first running a 6:13 et to Dennis’s 6.23 et.

With the overwhelming success of Steve Plueger’s funny cars, it was not unexpected for Garrett Bateman to be in the final round in the “Plueger & Gyger” ‘71 Mustang against Leah Pruett-LeDuc. The final round was not only a battle of the Ford Mustangs, but also the closest race of the event with Leah taking the hole shot reaction time advantage of a .079 to Garrett’s .161. However, it was not enough as Garrett crossed the finish line first running a 5.96 et to Leah’s 6.06 et, leaving a margin of victory only .018 of a second.

“The final round against the Plueger & Gyger car was not only special because it was my first final round in the Nostalgia Funny Car class, but because I had once been the driver of that car and for that team, and I wanted to prove that we could beat them. Unfortunately the Heartbreaker car could not out run their quick et. I thought my high mph was going to help me drive around him at the finish, instead I was about a foot behind at the stripe” said Leah Pruett-LeDuc.

There is a growing possibility that Leah Pruett-Leduc and Lee Jennings Sr. will maintain their partnership through the next NHRA Heritage Series race in Boise ID, August 15.

Leah Pruett-LeDuc would like to thank Lee Jennings Sr. for the this racing opportunity, in addition to: Coast Airbrush, Iwata Medea, Artool, Ringers Gloves, and Mickey Thompson Tires.

Leah is officially licensed for the ‘Big Show’ after finishing her licensing passes at the South Georgia Motorsports Park in the DSR owned Rockstar Funny Car, September 9th. Leah was more than eager to test the Rockstar Energy Drink Funny Car that is usually driven by Jerry Toliver. After a couple of early shut off passes due to tire shake and tire smoke, Leah clocked a time of 5.06 e.t. at 279 mph. All Leah needed now was one more full pass to get her license, but it was the end of the day, and she would have to wait till the next morning. Morning came, and the team did not waist any time preparing for the final run. At 9:00 am Leah drove the 7,000 HP funny car to a 5.01 e.t. at 301.70 mph, at the 1/4 mile.

Leah and ‘the Father of Funny Cars’ Steve Plueger teamed up for the California Hot Rod Reunion that took place in Bakersfield, California October 11-12. Leah qualified the Dickies Girl sponsored Plueger & Gyger nostalgia funny car to the fourth position out of the 25 cars vying for the coveted eight car field with a 6.06 e.t. while pedaling just once. Leah defeated Mark Sander’s ‘Mr. Explosive’ Nova first round by running her first ever five second pass in a nostalgia funny car, with a 5.90 et at 238.85 mph. Not only was this her first pass under six seconds in a nostalgia funny car, it also made her the first woman to ever do so!
Usually the winner of the first round moves on to compete in the second round, however the CHRR scheduled the funny cars to compete ‘Chicago Style,’ allowing only the two fastest winners of the first round to return for the second and final round. Leah was the third fastest winner, disabling her from competing in the final, but not from making an exhibition pass to please the fans and improve her declining e.t.! Leah piloted the Mustang one last time to a 5.832 e.t. at 239 mph, and also recorded the fastest time for the Plueger and Gyger car. Leah would like to thank Steve Plueger and the entire team for working so hard and creating an unforgettable weekend.
